Psychotherapy for Individuals, Couples, Families and Youth

Seeking out support takes courage and requires

vulnerability. Individual sessions are typically 50 min, one

can expect to experience being listened to, validated and

heard. My approach is warm, interactive, person and

present moment centered. I offer compassion , a safe and

secure holding environment where you might meet yourself

where you are and with kindness. I draw on my own life

experience, I will be present with you in the room and hope

to point you to self discovery and greater personal

awareness. Perhaps you are feeling down, have anxiety, are

in pain or seeking a new path or in a life transition? I also

have experience working with those who are experiencing

post concussion symptoms. I utilize a range of effective

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Often people will feel 'stuck" and "talk therapy" isn't resolving anything. Talk therapy and straight cognitive approaches work primarily with the neocortex. Interventions such as EMDR, that involve action(any type of bilateral or dual attention engagement qualifies) use of all sensory channels, somatic awareness and the use of breath, are more likely to work with the whole brain, promoting connections needed for healing and shifts in how memories are stored. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. EMDR therapy involves obtaining a target, getting some activation (no re-traumatization of chronological events) and the body and demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes. The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. Mindfulness

Mindfulness is sometimes described as “paying attention on purpose in a sustained and present manner.” It is described as a mental state achieved by focusing the totality of one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, and is used as a therapeutic technique as well as a skill to practice and build awareness of what is "going on" in both the mind, body and heart. One technique is to practice paying attention to the present moment by using the 5 senses. Noticing what we see, hear, feel, taste or smell has the calming effect of keeping us in the present moment. There are many forms of Mindfulness Practice that can be used based on what works best for you to bring focus to.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy or DBT

DBT presents skills (including the use of mindfulness) to reduce the experience of painful emotions, increase distress tolerance and improve communication and interpersonal problem-solving skills. These are skills to practiced to use to support emotional regulation and to increase awareness

IFS-Internal Family Systems

Is an evidence-based psychotherapy, helping people heal by accessing and healing their protec tive and wounded inner parts. IFS creates inner and outer connectedness by helping people first access their SELF and , from that core, come to understand and heal their parts. This work is experiential
